Becoming a Member

There are three ways to join Catalyst Baptist Church:

  1. By transfer of Letter of Membership from prior church that believes in #2 below.
  2. By profession of faith in Jesus as personal Savior and Lord (Rom 10:9), followed by a baptism of immersion.
  3. Statement of Faith that #2 was done at a previous time and place.

We take church membership seriously and so should you.

Joining a church is not something done flippantly, likewise leaving a church is also not a quick decision. As Jesus said in Luke 14: 28-33 it is necessary to count the cost before building a tower to make sure you have enough to complete it. Otherwise when you have laid the foundation and find yourself unable to finish, others will notice and mock you for having started and not finishing. Joining a church requires the counting of the cost of membership and in your belief of Jesus as Savior.

Upon receiving our salvation, we do not become free agents in the world of believers, first stopping here and then stopping there without joining any. Nor do we decide to take time away from church attendance because we don’t feel like going. As Christians we are accountable to each other, the Church, and Jesus; we do not get the option to live unaccountable lives.

As Paul wrote in 1 Cor 12-27, “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body – Jews or Greeks, Slaves or free – and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but many…Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”
